TL-BR-53-145 UPDATE 2

It’s been another incredible few days for Birthright Group 145!

We spent the past couple of days exploring northern Israel and experiencing a side of the country many visitors never get to see. One highlight was a geopolitical jeep tour near Israel’s northern border, which gave us a deeper understanding of the region and its complexities. We also volunteered at a therapeutic community garden, where gardening is used as a powerful tool to teach life skills, healing, and resilience.

The following day, we toured the city of Tzfat (Safed), one of Judaism’s four holy cities and a historic center of Jewish mysticism and Kabbalah. Later, we had the opportunity to meet members of the Druze community, a unique minority group native to the Levant, and learn about their culture and way of life.

From there, we made our way to Jerusalem. That evening, the group enjoyed some free time exploring the food, energy, and nightlife of Machane Yehuda Market. We were also joined by our Israeli peers, soldiers who travel with every Birthright group creating meaningful connections as Israelis and Americans shared stories, perspectives, and culture.

Yesterday was a full and powerful day in the Old City of Jerusalem, starting with a historical tour and culminating at the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest site. It was an emotional experience for many, especially for those who realized they are the first in their family line to return to Jerusalem.

Today we visited Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust memorial and museum, followed by Mount Herzl, the national military cemetery. Another deeply moving day, filled with reflection and remembrance. We’re now preparing to welcome Shabbat and enjoy some well-deserved rest together.
