TL-BR-54-627 UPDATE 1

Our First Few Days in Israel

After months of anticipation, we finally landed in Israel on Thursday and hit the ground running. Following our first Israeli sandwiches, a very necessary first taste of Aroma, and a warm introduction to our tour educator, Boaz, we made our way north to Tiberias for our first stop of the trip. After a long flight and a full first day, everyone was more than ready for an early night to rest up for the adventure ahead.

The next morning, we began the day with a beautiful hike at Mount Arbel, taking in incredible views and getting our first real taste of the land beneath our feet. From there, we jumped into jeeps for an off-road ride, followed by a very important Israel milestone for many in the group: their first shawarma. The day continued with time on the Kinneret, including a banana boat ride and plenty of fun in the water before we returned to the hotel to get ready for Shabbat.

Welcoming Shabbat together in Tiberias was a special moment for the group. After such a busy start, it was meaningful to slow down, enjoy dinner together, and begin to feel the rhythm of being in Israel. Shabbat day was relaxed and refreshing, with lots of pool time, good conversations, and a chance to recharge. We ended Shabbat with dinner and Havdalah, marking the transition into the next part of our journey.

On Sunday morning, we checked out of the hotel and headed to Tzfat, one of Israel’s most beautiful and spiritual cities. We toured the area, explored the winding streets, and, of course, made time for snacks. From there, we met up with our Israelis and shared a wonderful lunch together, beginning what we know will be one of the most meaningful parts of the trip.

After lunch, we traveled to the Bedouin village of Ka’abia, where we learned from Wifki about the Bedouin communities of northern Israel, their traditions, and their way of life. It was a fascinating and meaningful opportunity to hear directly from someone with such deep knowledge and personal connection to the community.

Later that day, we made our way to Tel Aviv, checked into our amazing hotel right by the beach, and enjoyed a fabulous night out in the city. The next morning began with breakfast before we headed to Jaffa for a tour of the area, learning about its history, character, and connection to modern Tel Aviv. We then spent time exploring the Carmel Market, where the group had a chance to wander, taste, shop, and take in the energy of the city before enjoying a delicious lunch.

The afternoon was spent at the beach, soaking up the sun and the Tel Aviv atmosphere. That evening, everyone had the chance to explore the city’s incredible restaurant scene and experience Tel Aviv by night.

We are now on our way down south, where we will volunteer and spend time in communities deeply affected by October 7th. We know this next part of the trip will be powerful, emotional, and important, and we are grateful for the opportunity to show up, learn, listen, and give back.

Our first few days have already been filled with adventure, connection, laughter, learning, and so many unforgettable moments. We cannot wait to see what comes next.
