TL-BR-52-1357 UPDATE 1
We landed in Israel on Wednesday morning and began our experience in the north. Our first stop was Haifa, where we visited the breathtaking Bahá’í Gardens. From there, we continued to Akko for lunch and explored the city’s rich Crusader history. We then made our way to Tiberias, where we’ve been based for the first four days.
Our time in the Galilee has been both adventurous and deeply meaningful. We enjoyed tubing in the Kinneret and participated in a jeep tour along the Syrian border, where we discussed the historical and geopolitical significance of the area. These moments sparked thoughtful conversations among participants and offered important context for understanding Israel’s modern-day challenges.
One of the most powerful experiences this week was an evening program Dina and I facilitated, focused on Jewish identity. Participants rated statements like “How proud are you to be Jewish?” and “Do you ever feel alone in your Jewish identity?” on a scale of 1–5, and then opened up about their answers. The vulnerability and honesty shared created a truly inspiring and emotional space for reflection, connection, and community-building within the group.
Today, we spent the day in Tzfat, beginning with a challah baking workshop that introduced participants to the mystical traditions of the city and the spiritual depth behind the mitzvah of baking challah. We then visited Abraham’s mystical art gallery, where we learned about Kabbalah and the spiritual significance of Hebrew names. This session sparked genuine curiosity and engagement, with participants asking questions about Torah, Kabbalah, and their personal Jewish journeys.
We are now preparing to welcome Shabbat together. Many participants have volunteered to help lead Kiddush and Hamotzi, and for many of them, this will be their first time celebrating Shabbat in Israel. We’re excited to share a joyful and meaningful Shabbat together as a group, and to continue the journey with a packed week ahead.
