TL-50-521 Update 2
Oh boy, what a Shabbat!! Here’s what we have been up to…
So, we got to relax on Saturday (aka, Shabbat).
There were some optional rosters at the hotel synagogue, as well as time to relax and chat with each other.
We enjoyed a nice neighborhood walking tour and got to explore the incredibly detailed and unique Israel Museum. So much to learn there, we need more days to explore!
We all met up for lunch and then had time to relax in the hotel and engage in conversations, play cards, and for many, took cat naps.
We were incredibly fortunate to have a powerful discussion with Zohar Raviv (the Vice President of Educational Proggraming for Birthright. It was a pro ledge to hear from him; such passion, intellect, and courage. The participants learned a great deal, and even chatted with him after the session in the hotel lobby for a bit. Powerful conversation!
Following this, we engaged in meaningful Shabbat programming surrounding Jewish Identity.
After this, we got to partake in a Havdallah ceremony, to signify the start of a new week
We had dinner, then went out to the Shuk and had a fabulous time celebrating life and being in Jerusalem for our night out.
The following day, Sunday, we enjoyed breakfast, and then attended an engaging political seminar with the knowledgeable and experienced, Iftach Burman.
This was followed by a lovely day exploring the Jewish quarter on an old city walking tour. We had lunch, then enjoyed time at the Kotel.
Then we got to have a fascinating tour at the Tower of David – visiting and learning more about the archaeological digs of the palace of Herod.
We went to Mahane Yehuda – Experiencing this colorful open-air marketplace in a different way than when we had out lesuire evening the other night. We had tasty dinner with a selection of different options, followed by the entertaining and enjoyable Misgifh activity, that was led by Israelis. We enjoyed a deep conversation to processing all we have done thus far.
Slept in our hotel, which was the last night in Jerusalem.
Waking up on Monday, we did the usual- breakfast with laughter and silly ness. Oh, and there was coffee- something our trip has mostly become fond of.
We had a meaningful preparation for Yad Vashem- chatting and connecting with each other.
This was followed by Har Herzl – National Military cemetery. This was hevey, but necessary. Then we had lunch in the beautiful neighborhood we were in.
We had the Yad Vashem experience – The World Holocaust Remembrance. It was sad and daunting at times for many, but we found hope in some parts of the dark day.
We drove to the desert for a once in a life experience.
Traditional desert experience & dinner upon arrival, we checked in, showered up, and showed up
After this, we enjoyed camelling around- with the Camel care activity
Then we had a nice meditation/tour guide under the stars and processed the past few heavy days. We enjoyed a Bonfire and deep chat. We enjoyed a night tour and slept in the Kfar Hanokdim Beduion tent.
Tomorrow, we will wake up early and hike Masada and enjoy floating in the Dead Sea. Get ready for those pictures to come, but for now, enjoy pictures from Jerusalem.
Until our next update, wishing everyone continued safety, health, and community
With appreciation,
Hal & Shani
