Here’s our blog post, written by participant Devin Menker –

Day 1: ArrivalOur Taglit Birthright Israel journey began on Monday, July 26th when members of our group arrived at both JFK and LAX International Airports. We boarded El Al Airlines and arrived at Ben Gurion International Airport at 11:30am. After a short introduction meeting, our group met our amazing tour guide Gai, and proceeded to travel to the holy city of Tiberias, located in northern Israel. Our day ended with dinner at the King Solomon hotel.

Day 2: Northern Israel – Golan Heights

Our group began the day touring the Golan Heights. While traveling, we learned about Israel’s effort to remove the active minefield in the region, which was created during the Six-Day and Yom Kippur Wars. The first stop was a memorial site for Jewish civilians who proudly defended the region for Israel during these conflicts. While at the memorial, our tour guide explained the history of the Golan Heights and its strategic importance to Israel. Our group then traveled north to the Dan Stream, where we hiked along the Dan River and learned how Israel distributes water. After finishing the hike, we stopped at a local food joint in Tiberias to eat our very first lunch in Israel! Following lunch, we headed to the Jordan River for a fun water rafting activity! Before leaving for the hotel, our group stopped at a local park for several team-building activities. These activities highlighted the importance of family and unity in our group.
